Federal agencies release fire management plan

GRAND JUNCTION, CO – The Bureau of Land Management and the National Park Service announce the release of the BLM Grand Junction Field Office and Colorado National Monument Interagency Fire Management Plan (IFMP).  The IFMP was developed jointly between the two offices and focuses on interagency fire management addressing such issues as fire suppression, fuel reduction, wildland fire use for resource benefits and prescribed fire.  It provides for consistent interagency fire management actions across a landscape level and affects almost 1.5 million acres of public land in Mesa and Garfield counties.

"Fire knows no boundaries," Colorado National Monument Superintendent Bruce Noble said.  "We are very proud of this collaborative effort."

"Using this interagency approach on local public lands is the only logical way to effectively accomplish all phases of fire management," Grand Junction Field Office Manager Catherine Robertson said.

The IFMP takes effect immediately and is just in time for the hot, dry weather that can precipitate wildfires in our area.  For additional information, contact BLM Planning and Environmental Coordinator Jane Ross at 970-244-3027.
