New Exhibit at the Anasazi Heritage Center

The Anasazi Heritage Center is proud to announce the opening of their newest special exhibit entitled, “Presence within Abandonment: Photography, Archaeology, and Western Historic Sites” by Thomas Carr. This exhibition consists of about ninety black-and-white photographs that explore the artistic qualities of abandoned places. Included are images of significant historic sites ranging from archaic campsites and prehistoric ruins to historic buildings and mines spanning the west from Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Utah, and Colorado including Mesa Verde National Park.

Carr’s twenty-five year interest in photographing historic places led him to a career in archaeology and historic preservation. He has a Master’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Colorado at Boulder and is currently a staff archaeologist for the Colorado Historical Society.

Thomas Carr will speak at the Anasazi Heritage Center on Sunday, November 13th at 2pm to discuss his thoughts on the interwoven history of photography and archaeology. This unique and fascinating link is the foundation for his inspiring artworks.

The museum is also offering FREE ADMISSION ALL DAY on Sunday, October 9th to encourage learning about Colorado’s people through time.

The Anasazi Heritage Center, operated by the Bureau of Land Management, is 3 miles west of Dolores, Colorado, and is open daily from 9 to 5 (9 to 4 Nov.-Feb.). Special events are paid for by visitor donations and entry fees under the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act. For more information, call the Anasazi Heritage Center at (970) 882-5600.
