Limited access to Mud Springs Campground

GRAND JUNCTION, CO – The Mud Springs Campground, managed by the Bureau of Land Management Grand Junction Field Office, will be closed Mondays, beginning at 8 a.m., through Fridays, ending at 5 p.m., through the remainder of June.  This closure is effective immediately.  The campground will be open for camping on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the month.  BLM is improving facilities at the popular campground, with the installation of new vault toilets and post and cable.  Campground roads are undergoing maintenance, including the addition of gravel.  The upgrades are expected to be completed in time for the busy 4th of July holiday weekend.  The purpose of the closure is to provide for public safety and prevent hazardous situations while construction is occurring.

“The closure of Mud Springs Campground during the week will allow the contractor to complete the job quickly, and the public won’t be exposed to the nuisances and hazards associated with construction zones,”  BLM Recreation Program Manager Britta Laub said.  “It would be best for campers to arrive after 5 p.m. on Fridays, and plan on departing prior to 8 a.m. on Mondays to avoid construction operations.”

During construction, no fees will be charged for weekend campground use.  However, campground fee rates will be reinstated on July 1 and are as follows:

Picnic Area: no fee, day use only

Individual Sites:    $5 per day

Group Site:           $5 per day for 2 vehicles

$10 per day for 3-4 vehicles

$15 per day for 5-6 vehicles

$20 per day for 7-8 vehicles

The Mud Springs Campground is located on Glade Park off of 16.5 Road.  For more information, please contact BLM Recreation Program Manager Britta Laub at (970) 244-3031.
