Hikers to see changes on popular trailGRAND JUNCTION, CO – The Bureau of Land Management and Colorado Mountain Club are joining forces this weekend to improve the popular Mica Mine trail in Ladder Canyon, accessed from the Bangs Canyon Trailhead. The project will remedy an unsustainable section of trail with multiple erosion and safety concerns. Work begins at 9 a.m., Saturday, at the Bangs Canyon Trailhead off Little Park Rd. "The BLM depends heavily on our volunteer workforce," BLM Park Ranger Chris Pipkin said. "We are excited about our partnership with CMC and are looking forward to ongoing efforts." Project activities include hardening the trail through placement of rock steps on a steep trail section just beyond the mine. This is the first of several projects planned in partnership between the two entities. Volunteers are welcome and do not need to be members of CMC. Volunteers should bring gloves, sturdy boots, hat, lunch, water and sunscreen. For project details, contact Chris Pipkin at 970-244-3024. ### |
