BLM and Grand County Celebrate National Public Lands Day

KREMMLING, CO — The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Kremmling Field Office will team up with Grand County, the Forest Service, National Parks Service and Headwaters Trails Alliance (HDTA) in one of five National Public Lands Day (NPLD) events this Saturday, September 24th, 2005, in Grand County.

Volunteers can roll up their sleeves and help preserve their public lands through a BLM project north of Kremmling. The event will entail building a buck-and-rail fence along a technical jeep route to better define travel areas for users.

Registration for this and all other Grand County NPLD events begins at 7:00 a.m. at the Sol Vista Basin Lodge, with a continental breakfast provided by Grand County businesses. Busses will take volunteers from Sol Vista to their chosen project sites where all tools, materials and lunch will be supplied.

“It is always a really busy day, but it’s packed full of fun events,” said Stacey Antilla, BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner.
The work day will end at 4:30 p.m. when busses will return volunteers to Sol Vista for a dinner sponsored by Winter Park Ski Resort. There will also be an award ceremony, games, and live music. Activities will last until 9:00 p.m.

For further questions on this project, call Stacey Antilla, Outdoor Recreation Planner, 970-724-3039. To learn more about the NPLD events in Grand County call HDTA at 970-887-1174 or visit http://www.npld.com/involved/colorado.cfm

Since its inception in 1994, National Public Lands Day has grown from a work day that took place at only three BLM-administered sites into a nationwide event involving numerous federal and non-federal partners. NPLD takes place on the fourth Saturday of every September.

National Public Lands Day is an effort to promote positive use of public lands. The day is a national invitation to volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, and interests to work together to preserve their public lands and natural resources. NPLD is a partnership of federal agencies with state and local governments, private businesses, and citizen volunteers.
