BLM Selects Manager for the Gunnison Field Office

GUNNISON, CO— The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announces the selection of Kenny McDaniel as the new Gunnison Field Office Manager. Kenny is expected to begin work the week of September 12, 2005.

Kenny will bring over 25 years of experience in natural resource management to the Gunnison Field Office. Currently he serves as the senior Forester for the BLM in Washington D.C where he provides leadership and support for the BLM Forestry program. 

Kenny’s background includes extensive on-the-ground experience in the Medford, Oregon District where he served as a Natural Resource Staff Administrator for BLM Oregon’s Ashland Field Office.  In this position, Kenny supervised a staff responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of all vegetative treatments and fuels management treatments.

In 2004, Kenny received the BLM Director’s Award for Innovation in Management, Performance and Public Service for his contributions to Stewardship Contracting, the Healthy Forest Initiative, and the Healthy Forests Restoration Act.

Kenny graduated in 1979 from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Management. He arrives in Gunnison with his wife of 29 years, Lee McDaniel. Kenny and Lee have two sons -- Jay and Erik. Jay, 24 years old, is a former Marine and now attends the University of Maryland. Erik, 21 years-old, currently lives and works in Hawaii.
