Calling all trail enthusiasts

GRAND JUNCTION, CO – Hikers, equestrians, mountain bikers, motorcyclists—no matter what your mode of travel, all single-track trail enthusiasts are invited! Register now for the Trail Crew Leader Training hosted by the Bureau of Land Management and Colorado Outdoor Training Initiative (COTI), on June 4-5, in Fruita. Scheduled in conjunction with National Trails Day 2005, participants will learn how to effectively lead volunteers in the construction and maintenance of sustainable trails. This two-day training session will focus on single-track trails.

“Working closely with our partners and all user groups helps BLM provide diverse recreation opportunities,” Supervisory Outdoor Recreation Planner Britta Laub said. “Experienced crew leaders foster a stewardship for our public lands and help others understand the importance of single-track ethic in protecting our desert environment.”

COTI has developed a standard curriculum for training trail crew leaders in Colorado. The course will be taught by trained COTI Instructors using COTI's "Guide to Crew Leadership for Trails," of which, as a participant, you will receive a copy. Through classroom sessions, field exercises and role-playing, you'll learn and practice construction and maintenance of sustainable trails, leadership strategies and techniques, tool use, and safety. By building a pool of trained crew leaders among your user groups, you will increase the safety, efficiency and quality of your trail construction and maintenance projects.
