Bangs Canyon EA released todayGRAND JUNCTION, CO— The Bureau of Land Management Grand Junction Field Office (GJFO) released the Environmental Assessment for the Bangs Canyon Special Recreation Management Area today. The EA analyzes implementation actions for each of the six unique emphasis areas created under the Bangs Canyon Management Plan, approved in 1999. The EA addresses actions needed to manage the urban interface pressures on public lands near the city of Grand Junction, as well as site-specific actions required to manage the more remote areas in the Bangs Canyon SRMA. As the West’s population grows, so does the demand for recreational opportunities on public lands. The BLM manages recreation in the Bangs Canyon SRMA for a broad spectrum of uses ranging from hiking to mountain biking to 4-wheeling. Copies of the EA are available at the GJFO, and can be requested in electronic form at Colorado_Bangs_Plan@blm.gov. BLM is taking public comment on the EA through September 23, 2005. For consideration, comments on this EA must be submitted either by writing to BLM Grand Junction Field Office, Attention: BCEA, 2815 H Rd., Grand Junction, Colorado 81506, or by e-mail to Colorado_Bangs_Plan@blm.gov. Receipt and consideration of comments by any other means cannot be guaranteed by the BLM. Submission by mail is recommended to ensure your comments are received.
