BLM Implements Wolford Mountain Travel Management Plan
KREMMLING - The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Kremmling Field Office is implementing the Wolford Mountain Travel Management Plan, which involves nearly 33, 200 acres of public land north of Kremmling, CO. The plan was announced in January, and designates routes for both Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) and non-motorized uses in the Wolford Mountain area, while protecting the area’s natural and cultural resources.
In May, the Kremmling Field Office began posting signs to assign travel routes in accordance with the travel management plan. By the end of June, the BLM had approximately 30-40 % of the roads and trails designated. The BLM hopes to complete the travel designations by the beginning of the fall hunting season.
Along with the travel designations, the BLM is building information kiosks at four key entry locations. The kiosks will be finished late in the summer and will provide visitors with travel route information, recreational opportunities, and details about the area’s natural and cultural resources. Volunteer projects are being organized for late summer in order to build fences to protect cultural and paleontological sites. The BLM also has a partnership with the Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory to monitor migratory bird use in the Wolford Mountain area.
Maps illustrating the area and the new travel system will soon be available to the public. Please feel free to stop in the BLM Kremmling Field Office for information about the travel route designations and travel system, or call (970)-724-3000.
