Stay Stay the Trail featured during OHV management workshop

GRAND JUNCTION, CO—The Colorado Off-Highway Vehicle Coalition (COHVCO) challenges off-highway vehicle (OHV) users to stay on designated trails, launching its “Stay the Trail” campaign on the Western Slope at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 9, 2005 at the Bangs Canyon Trailhead off Little Park Rd. COHVCO is joined by the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, Colorado State Parks, Southern Rockies Conservation Alliance, Motorcycle Trail Riders Association, and the Western Slope ATV Association in supporting this campaign in which education is viewed as one component in managing use on public lands. Trail management for multiple recreation trail uses is the focus throughout the week during the OHV Management Workshop, scheduled for June 9-11, in Grand Junction.

“Western Colorado’s public lands are shared special places. Long-term sustainability of our trail opportunities requires all enthusiasts to share the responsibility to stay on the trail,” said BLM Grand Junction Field Manager Catherine Robertson.

Local trail enthusiasts of all recreational interests, along with land management decision makers, recreation planners and resource specialists will be attending the OHV Management Workshop, an educational forum focused on the design and construction of sustainable multi-use trail systems. Guided rides, panel discussions and certification opportunities are just a few of the planned activities.

For additional information, contact BLM Recreation Program Manager Britta Laub at (970) 244-3031, or BLM Transportation Planner Jim Cooper at (970) 244-3047. Additional details and registration for the OHV Management Workshop are available online at www.cohvco.org or www.voutdoors.org.
