Grand Valley Volunteers and Colorado Cares

GRAND JUNCTION, CO – The Bureau of Land Management Grand Junction Field Office is partnering with the Friends of McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area in hosting the Governor’s “Colorado Cares” event at 9 a.m., on Saturday, August 27, 2005. Volunteers are needed to help clean trash from the empty ponds near Devils Canyon, located in the McInnis Canyons NCA.

“This kind of event gives the Friends group an opportunity to carry out its mission,” said Bill Byers, president of the Friends of McInnis Canyons. “We’re committed to furthering stewardship in the NCA and invite others to join us.”

“This is a great opportunity for families to get out, enjoy the day together and do something good for the environment,” added McInnis Canyons NCA Manager Paul Peck.

Volunteers should RSVP to the BLM at (970) 244-3000 by August 26 and mention Colorado Cares when calling. Items recommended for the day include work gloves, sturdy shoes, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, plenty of water and a sack lunch.

Volunteers will meet at the Devils Canyon Trailhead gate at 9 a.m. Take I-70 west to the Fruita exit, go south on Hwy 340 to Kings View Rd., turn right and travel through the subdivision proceeding about one mile to the trailhead. For additional information, contact BLM Resource Interpreter Wade Johnson at 970-244-3025.
