Space available for crew leader training

GRAND JUNCTION, CO – All recreational enthusiasts who enjoy using single-track trails are invited to register now for the Trail Crew Leader Training, hosted by the Bureau of Land Management and Colorado Outdoor Training Initiative (COTI).  Scheduled for June 4-5 in Fruita, participants will help celebrate National Trails Day 2005 on Saturday and learn how to effectively lead volunteers in the construction and maintenance of sustainable trails during this two-day training session.

“BLM’s ability to provide diverse recreation opportunities depends on a close working relationship with our partners and all user groups,” Grand Junction Field Office Manager Catherine Robertson said.  “By learning to be a crew leader, individuals become stewards for our public lands and help others understand how important that is.”

COTI has developed a standard curriculum for training trail crew leaders in Colorado, and the course will be taught by trained COTI Instructors.  Through classroom sessions, field exercises and role-playing, you'll learn and practice construction and maintenance of sustainable single-track trails, leadership strategies and techniques, tool use, and safety.

Join us in celebrating National Trails Day and learn new skills that will benefit your user group!  Get more details and register online at http://www.voutdoors.org, or by contacting BLM Park Ranger Chris Pipkin at (970) 244-3024 or chris_pipkin@blm.gov.
