For Immediate Release: November 30, 2004 Transfer Trail road closing for the seasonGLENWOOD SPRINGS, CO—The annual closure for Transfer Trail will occur December 1, 2004 at the upper gate above the saddle approximately 1.6 miles from the intersection of Traver Trail. The road will be closed until April 30, 2005 or until conditions allow for safe travel next spring. With the exception of snowmobiles, no motorized vehicle use is allowed. Since 1996 the road has been closed at the lower gate. However, a recently resumed mining operation by Pitkin Iron now requires the road to be plowed above the 1996 closure point. The lower gate will be left open and the road maintained to the saddle throughout the winter, unless public safety is compromised through user conflict. Users are advised to practice caution as the road is steep and narrow and heavy truck traffic related to mining operations will occur throughout the winter months. Four-wheel drive vehicles with chains are recommended. Vehicles towing trailers over 15 ft. are not recommended during winter months. For more information, please contact the BLM Glenwood Springs Field Office at 50629 Hwy. 6 & 24, Glenwood Springs or call (970) 947-2800.
