For Immediate Release: September 7, 2004 Fire ban lifted on BLM landsThe fire ban, implemented on June 14, will be rescinded effective 12:01 a.m., Wed., Sept. 8, on all Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands managed by both the Grand Junction and Glenwood Springs field offices. These restrictions are being lifted in conjunction with Mesa county authorities, who are also lifting restrictions in Mesa County. County fire restrictions remain in place for all lands in Garfield county, as well as for private lands within Eagle and Pitkin counties. “We’ve benefited from the public’s excellent cooperation this fire season,” said Grand Junction Field Manager Catherine Robertson. “In what has been one of the driest summers on record here in the Grand Valley, there have been no significant human-caused fires and BLM appreciates the public’s diligence in preventing fires.” Although recent rains have helped, fuels are still dry and the potential for fire remains. The public should still use caution and is reminded that using fireworks is prohibited on federal land year-round. -BLM- |
