For Immediate Release: December 14, 2004 Burn sites benefiting from aerial seedingMONTROSE, CO—The Bureau of Land Management Uncompahgre Field Office is conducting aerial seeding Dec. 14–17. A seed mix of native grasses, shrubs and forbs will be used in rehabilitating 3,156 acres burned in 2004 wildfires and fuels reduction projects. “Native vegetation is desired for stabilizing soil in burned areas. Seeding will establish ground cover and forage, and help in minimizing invasive weeds,” said Bruce Krickbaum, planner and team lead for BLM’s Southwest Colorado Fuels Reduction Team. Areas benefiting from aerial seeding include the Campbell, Tappen and McGruder wildfires; Log Hill and Government Springs prescribed burns; and Hwy. 90 Powerline and Dave Wood mechanical fuels reduction projects. Aerial seeding is dependent upon weather, with good visibility and no wind a must. A Clovis, New Mex., firm, Aeronautical Technologies, was awarded the contract. For additional information, contact Bruce Krickbaum at the Uncompahgre FO, telephone (970) 240-5384. -BLM- |
