BLM to enforce regulations for Mack Ridge area during Lower Valley Fire District fireworks display

GRAND JUNCTION—The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will be enforcing rules and regulations for the Mack Ridge area during the Lower Valley Fire District fireworks display scheduled for the evening of Sat., July 3.

No toilet facilities will be available at the Mack Ridge parking lot. Although limited parking is available in this area, the public is encouraged to park at the Country Jam site. BLM law enforcement officers will be patrolling the area and are reminding the public to stay on designated roads to avoid damaging the area’s drought-stressed vegetation.

Given the high fire danger, it is unlawful to have any fire except in improved campfire facilities in developed campgrounds. Smoking is also prohibited except within an enclosed vehicle, or in a developed recreation site, or while in an area at least 3 feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of flammable vegetation. All fireworks are prohibited on public land.

For more information, contact Gene Arnesen, outdoor recreation planner, at 970-244-3020, or Raul Morales, associate field manager, at 970-244-3066.
