BLM Director honors Uncompahgre Plateau Project

MONTROSE, CO— Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Director Kathleen Clarke will visit Montrose to honor the Uncompahgre Plateau Project with the distinguished Director’s 4 C’s award. The presentation will be from 3 - 5 p.m., Wed., Oct. 27, at the Holiday Inn Express, 1391 S. Townsend Ave.

“We face many challenges in managing public lands throughout the West. Partnerships like the UP Project, which demonstrate the philosophy of communication, consultation, and cooperation, all in the service of conservation, are critical as we create the future of public lands and the communities that depend on public lands for their way of life,” said Uncompahgre Field Manager Barb Sharrow.

BLM Colorado State Director Ron Wenker, Dept. of Natural Resources Executive Director Russell George and UP Project members will join Clarke in speaking at the event.

The UP Project began as an effort to improve winter habitat for deer and elk, and has since developed into a vision for 1.5 million acres involving both public and private lands. More than 75 partners have participated in the project, generating over $3.5 million in funding while contributing to the local economy.
