All of us lose through senseless vandalism

CRAIG, CO – Two local juveniles recently admitted to vandalizing a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) sign on Duffy Mountain. The large sign, advising visitors to the Little Yampa Canyon Special Recreation Management Area of travel restrictions, was shot multiple times and totally destroyed. The juveniles have agreed to pay $230 for replacing the sign, and each juvenile will spend one day cleaning popular camp sites on BLM public lands.

“Signs are placed on public lands to inform visitors, who not only pay for those signs through their taxes but also contribute a great deal to the local economy. Vandalizing signs wastes taxpayers’ money and penalizes everyone,” BLM Law Enforcement Ranger Gail Mullen said.

Those choosing to target shoot on public lands are reminded to shoot responsibly and to always pick up spent shell casings. Leave an area in better condition than you found it, so that others may follow in your footsteps and enjoy their public lands too.
