For Immediate Release: May 4, 2004 BLM open house for new field manager Barb SharrowMONTROSE— New Bureau of Land Management Uncompahgre Field Office Manager Barb Sharrow will meet and greet the community at an open house 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 14 at the Public Lands Center at 2405 S. Townsend Ave., Montrose. “My goal is to manage public lands cooperatively with the community while using the best knowledge and science available,” Sharrow said. “I look forward to meeting and working with the Uncompahgre area community.” Sharrow recently came to Colorado from Utah, where she was the assistant monument manager for visitor services at Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. She led the planning team for recreation and wilderness at the national monument. Prior to working at Grand Staircase-Escalante she spent nine years as an outdoor recreation planner for the BLM State Office in Colorado. She started her career as a backcountry ranger at Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. The Uncompahgre Field Office is responsible for the management and stewardship of more than 900,000 acres of public lands in southwestern Colorado. The Uncompahgre Field Office manages many of the premier recreation attractions in southwest Colorado, in terrain ranging from red rock deserts to pinyon-juniper woodlands.
