BULL MOUNTAIN

MASTER

DEVELOPMENT

PLAN EIS

Natural Gas Drilling Rig

In compliance with NEPA and the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976, the BLM Uncompahgre Field Office is preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to analyze a proposed Master Development Plan (MDP) submitted by SG Interests, Ltd to drill up to 150 wells within the Bull Mountain Unit and to construct associated access roads, pipelines, and infrastructure (UFO NEPA Action #13-22).

The Bull Mountain Unit includes approximately 19,645 acres of federal and private subsurface mineral estate located about 30 miles northeast of the Town of Paonia and bisected by State Highway 133.  The proposal is to drill up to 146 natural gas wells and 4 water disposal wells and develop associated pads, access roads, gas and water pipelines, screw compressors, and overhead electric lines.

The BLM held a public scoping period from September 21 to November 13, 2009 in order to prepare an Environmental Assessment (UFO NEPA #09-05).  However, due to projected air quality impacts, the BLM determined that it was necessary to prepare an EIS and cancelled the EA in April 2013.  The BLM will provide additional opportunities for public participation upon publication of the Draft EIS.

Documents pertinent to this proposal will be posted on this webpage and made available at the Montrose Public Lands Center, 2505 South Townsend Avenue, Montrose, Colorado.  For further information or to have your name added to our mailing list, contact Project Manager Jerry Jones at 970-240-5300 or email bullmtneis@blm.govTo learn more about oil and gas leasing on federal lands, visit:  http://www.blm.gov/co/st/en/BLM_Programs/oilandgas.html
