Description: Annual herb with stems 3/4 - 2 3/8 inches (2-6cm) long, hairy at the base and below the heads. Leaves less than 1 1/4 inches (3.2cm) long, and 1mm wide. Inflorescence are heads (about 23 per plant) with bell-shaped involucres. Ray flowers have petals reduced to yellow tubes tinged with red. Heads contain 6-34 reddish, 5-lobed disk flowers. Fruit are oblong, 1/16 - 1/8 inch (1.5-3mm) long. Distribution: Habitat: Valley and foothill grassland. Elevation 2048 - 2736 feet. Flowering Period: Blooms April - May.
