Biomass

Biomass energy or "bioenergy" is the process of creating energy from plant-derived materials.  Generally, items including residues from agriculture or forestry are used similar to fossil fuels.  Biomass is burned to produce steam, which drives a turbine that turns a generator, converting the power into electricity.  Learn more from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory
