About Public Involvement
Opportunities to participate vary, depending on the level of analysis needed on a project.
For an Environmental Assessment there is no required scoping or public comment periods, but the BLM can decide to initiate a scoping period along with a comment period. Even if there are no formal opportunities to comment on an Environmental Assessment, the public will be notified during the release of the assessment and any associated documents, including the Finding of No Significant Impact or the Decision Record.
For an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), public input is requested as part of the Notice of Intent to prepare an EIS and following the Notice of Availability of a draft EIS. Following the Notice of Intent the public may participate in scoping, and following the release of the draft EIS the public may provide comments on the document.
