Fast Facts

  • The Tule Wind Energy Project (TWEP), proposed by Pacific Wind Development, LLC (a subsidiary of Iberdrola Renewables), would be located in the McCain Valley in eastern San Diego County, approximately 60 miles east of San Diego, near Boulevard.
  • The proposed project would be a 128 turbine wind facility capable of generating up to 200 megawatts of electricity on a total footprint of 15,493 acres, encompassing public lands administered by BLM and the California State Lands Commission, as well as lands on the Ewiiaapaayp Indian Reservation.
  • The BLM's Preferred Alternative would allow for construction of 65 turbines.
  • TWEP would involve 1.5- to 3-megawatt wind turbines, associated generator step up transformers, a 34.5-kilovolt overhead and underground collector cable system linking each turbine to the next and to a project substation.
  • The proposed project would deliver power through the project substation by an overhead 69-kilovolt transmission line to run south to an interconnection with the existing San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) Boulevard Substation.
