A seagull flies over the California Coastal National Monument which stretches along the entire coast of California and extends 12 miles into the Pacific Ocean.  The Monument includes 20,000 rocks, islands, pinnacles and reefs.

Fast Facts

  • The Blythe Solar Power Project (BSPP), proposed by Solar Millennium, LLC, of Oakland, CA, will be located eight miles west of Blythe in Riverside County.
  • The selected alternative, as analyzed in the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS), authorizes a 968-megawatt solar power project. 
  • The BSPP will generate enough green energy to power 290,400 homes.
  • The selected alternative's footprint covers about 7,025 acres of BLM public land.
  • The BSPP will deliver power via a bundled double circuit 230-kilovolt transmission line to a new Colorado River substation to be owned and operated by Southern California Edison.
  • The project is expected to generate 604 jobs during the construction phase and 221 jobs during the operations phase.
  • Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar approved the BSPP on October 25, 2010.
