Unnamed Mine 3 - Abandoned Mine Lands Project


Site Narrative

The unnamed mine shaft is situated in the Rademacher Mining District south and adjacent to Ridgecrest, CA. The shaft is about 20 feet deep, adjacent to a well-traveled road and had a damaged, useless fence. The north end of mining district includes the BLM Rademacher Hills Viewshed Management Area which is comprised of 18,000 acres, providing an area hiking, biking OHV use, and equestrian activity. The Unnamed Mine and more than forty additional mine sites are within this viewshed.

Previous/Existing Assessments

The locations and condition of  mine features were compiled during a study of the Rademacher Hills Viewshed. During this study forty-three mine sites with physical hazards were documented and recommendations for safety closure were submitted to the Ridgecrest Field Office in May, 2001.

Reclamation/Recommendations

The shaft was fenced in December, 2001 by a local Boy Scout Troop under the supervision and funding of BLM staff

Estimated Costs

The shaft was one of four sites fenced in 2001 at an estimated material costs of $500 each.
