Site Narrative
The Unnamed Mine is situated in the Rademacher Mining District south and adjacent to Ridgecrest, CA. The shaft, at the time of the study was unfenced, in excess of 20 feet deep, and near a heavily used road. The north end of mining district includes the BLM Rademacher Hills Viewshed Management Area which is comprised of 18,000 acres, providing an area hiking, biking OHV use, and equestrian activity. The Unnamed Mine and more than forty additional mine sites are within this viewshed.
Previous/Existing Assessments
The locations and condition of mine features were compiled during a study of the Rademacher Hills Viewshed. During this study forty-three mine sites with physical hazards were documented and recommendations for safety closure were submitted to the Ridgecrest Field Office in May, 2001.
Reclamations/Recommendations
The shaft was fenced in December, 2001 by a local Boy Scout Troop under the supervision and funding of BLM staff
Estimated Costs
The shaft was one of four sites fenced in 2001 at an estimated material costs of $500 each.
