A seagull flies over the California Coastal National Monument which stretches along the entire coast of California and extends 12 miles into the Pacific Ocean.  The Monument includes 20,000 rocks, islands, pinnacles and reefs.

Coachella Valley Mountain Conservancy

Bill Havert is the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument Advisory Committee representative for the Coachella Valley Mountain Conservancy, a community-based partnership designed to "...protect the natural and cultural resources of the Coachella Valley."

Mr. Havert has been working with the Conservancy for 13 years, and is currently the executive director. The Conservancy's works to acquire land within the valley and surrounding mountains through their nonprofit group, the Friends of the Desert Mountains, for the purposes of conservation and preservation.

Under contract to the Coachella Valley Association of Governments, Mr. Havert and the Conservancy have been working on the Coachella Valley Multi-species Habitat Conservation Plan, which is designed to provide guidance for future development of the valley and surrounding lands.
