A seagull flies over the California Coastal National Monument which stretches along the entire coast of California and extends 12 miles into the Pacific Ocean.  The Monument includes 20,000 rocks, islands, pinnacles and reefs.

Thomas P. Hollenbeck  resides in Bishop, about 18 miles west of the California Desert District's northern region and is the only city near that portion of our district. For 11 years Mr. Hollenbeck has been director of Caltrans District 9, which extends from the Nevada border to the Los Angeles County line, encompassing a large portion of the California Desert.  Mr. Hollenbeck is responsible for the effective administration and operation of the California Department of Transportation’s facilities and programs within the district, including planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the state highway system.  Mr. Hollenbeck’s expertise in working with the communities, counties, and government agencies of the northern section of the California Desert enhances the Desert Advisory Council in its mission to provide transportation/rights-of-way counsel and advice to the Bureau of Land Management’s California Desert District.

Mr. Hollenbeck attended the University of Rochester and graduated with a degree in civil engineering from Union College in Schenectady.
