A seagull flies over the California Coastal National Monument which stretches along the entire coast of California and extends 12 miles into the Pacific Ocean.  The Monument includes 20,000 rocks, islands, pinnacles and reefs.

Dinah O. Shumway

Non-renewable Resources

Ms. Dinah Shumway of Apple Valley is the representative for non-renewable resources on the council.  A registered consulting geologist and principle in a consulting company, Ms. Shumway is currently assigned to the Surface Mining and Reclamation Act (SMARA) mineral assessment program with field areas in San Bernardino, Inyo, Mono, Riverside, Imperial, and Kern counties.  She is also a community college geology instructor and has extensive experience working with disparate groups to achieve collaborative solutions.   

Ms. Shumway has a master's degree in geology from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree from California State University, Long Beach.  Ms. Shumway is also a member of Geological Society of America, Inland Geological Society, California Mining Association, and Mojave Desert Mining Advisory Council.
