Dr. Neil Havlik is the natural resources manager for the city of San Luis Obispo and has filled the position as chairman of the monument's advisory committee since its inception in 2002. Prior to working for San Luis Obispo, Neil worked for several public agencies including as the executive director of a land trust organization. He has also served on numerous committees, commissions and study groups, and has been an elected official. His interest in the Carrizo Plain dates back to his years as a student at Cal-Poly University. Neil obtained his bachelor's degree in biology from California State Polytechnic University, master's in biology from University of California, Santa Barbara and PhD in wildland resources science from the University of California, Berkeley. Mr. Havlik resides in San Luis Obispo.
