Roger Mitchell

Public-at-Large

Roger Mitchell is an advocate for the public-at-large on the council, representing a variety of interests. 

Mr. Mitchell has a bachelor of science degree in geography and geology from Long Beach State University and has authored numerous outdoor magazine articles and books, dating back to 1964.  He has lived all but 10 years of his life in Central California and has hiked, climbed, backpacked and explored most of the public lands in the region.   He served on the California Off-road Vehicle Advisory Council from 1969 to 1973 and is a current member of the Sierra National Forest Advisory Council.  His other public service includes posse and mountain rescue for the Inyo County Sheriff's Department.  He is a captain on the Madera County Fire Department and serves on the Department's executive committee. 

Mr. Mitchell's combination of knowledge of public lands in Central California and experience on advisory committees will provide a valuable contribution to the Central California AdvisoryCouncil.   He resides in Oakhurst, California.
