A seagull flies over the California Coastal National Monument which stretches along the entire coast of California and extends 12 miles into the Pacific Ocean.  The Monument includes 20,000 rocks, islands, pinnacles and reefs.

Mary Gorden

Mary Gorden is a former council chairperson. She spent 20 years as a public school teacher before becoming an educational consultant. She has initiated and organized the Southern Sierra Archaeological Society's site monitoring program for the Bureau of Land Management and a historic cabin restoration project for the Sierra National Forest. She is a volunteer at the Carrizo Plains National Monument and a former director of Project Archaeology, a BLM sponsored educational program.

Mary holds a bachelor's and master's degree in education.
