BLM Ukiah Field Office Announces Temporary Road Restrictions for Rally Car Race

The Bureau of Land Management has announced that it will temporarily close Walker Ridge Road and the South Cow Mountain Off-Highway Vehicle Area to general recreation use and through traffic to provide for public safety during the Mendocino Rally race July 26 and 27.

Walker Ridge Road in the Indian Valley Recreation Area will be restricted on Saturday, July 26.    Non-participant vehicles will be escorted through the area during periods when rally cars are not on the racecourse. However, expect delays of up to an hour.

The South Cow Mountain OHV Area will be closed to the public from Saturday, July 26 through Sunday, July 27, but spectators will be allowed at the Westside Staging Area.

Mendocino Rally has been granted an exclusive use permit to use these areas for this "stage rally" event. "The rally cars will be racing at high speeds on the road in both directions," said Rich Burns, BLM Ukiah Field Office manager.  "We have to be as certain as we can be that no non-participant accidentally gets onto the race course, for the safety of both the racers and the public." The areas will be reopened to the public as soon as they are cleared of all race-related materials.
