Public Invited to Provide Input for OHV Grant Proposals

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ridgecrest Field Office has scheduled an open house on Thursday, February 6 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to allow the public an opportunity to provide input in the development of several off-highway vehicle grant proposals. BLM staff will present an overview of grant proposals and be available to answer questions. Proposed grant applications are being prepared for FY 2015 submission to the California State Parks, Off Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division (OHVMR). The field office is located at 300 South Richmond Road in Ridgecrest.

The OHVMR grants and cooperative agreements program supports well-managed off-highway vehicle recreation in California by providing financial assistance to cities, counties, districts, federal agencies (including the BLM), state agencies, educational institutions, federally recognized Native American Tribes and nonprofit entities. BLM applies for grants from the California Department of Parks and Recreation's Off Highway Vehicle Division each year to help fund and coordinate its off-highway vehicle (OHV) program. The grants support OHV management activities such as law enforcement, resource protection, planning and monitoring, visitor services, and maintenance on BLM lands throughout the state.

From March 4, through April 7, 2014, the public is provided the opportunity to comment on applications the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) submits to the OHVMR. Preliminary applications will be available on the division website at www.ohv.parks.ca.gov for review and comment from March 4 through April 7. The website also will provide detailed instructions for accessing the preliminary application and submitting comments. Public comments should be submitted to both the OHMVR and to the appropriate BLM field office by April 7.

Comments on the Ridgecrest Field Office applications should be submitted to Dana Jacobs Outdoor Recreation Planner at dajacobs@blm.gov.   For more information, please contact Dana Jacobs, Ridgecrest Outdoor Recreation Planner, (760) 384-5442 or Craig Beck, Recreation Branch Supervisor, (760) 384-5440.
