Free Guided Hike Offered in King Range National Conservation Area

A free guided hike featuring information about the King Range National Conservation Area will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, in the Shelter Cove area of California's Lost Coast.

The hiking group will meet at 9 a.m. at Black Sands Beach parking lot in Shelter Cove for a shuttle to the hike starting point at the Horse Mountain Creek Trailhead along King Peak Road.

Hikers should be prepared for a moderate six-mile hike the gains up to 300 feet and then descends 1,700 feet to the beach. They should wear sturdy hiking boots, bring food and water and be prepared for varied weather conditions. The hike will return to the Black Sands Beach parking area by 3 p.m.
