BLM Schedules Public Comment Meetings for Palen Solar Project

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has scheduled two public comment meetings to address the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (DSEIS) for the Palen Solar Electric Generating System (PSEGS).

Meetings are scheduled for:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the UC Riverside Palm Desert Center, 75080 Frank Sinatra Drive, Palm Desert.
  • Thursday, Sept. 19, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Palo Verde College, One College Drive, Blythe.

Palen Solar Holdings LLC is proposing to develop a 500-megawatt energy plant in Riverside County using concentrating power tower technology. In 2008, the previous project proponent, Palen Solar I LLC, filed a right-of-way application for a concentrating solar project that would use solar parabolic trough technology to generate electricity. That application was analyzed through a proposed California Desert Conservation Area Plan Amendment/Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) which is referred to in the DSEIS as the PSPP FEIS.

In addition to the change in technology, the PSEGS includes a shift in the location of a portion of the generation gen-tie line to accommodate the relocation of the Red Bluff Substation and align the transmission corridor of the PSEGS Project with the Desert Sunlight Solar Farm Project transmission corridor.

Comments may be sent to Frank McMenimen, Project Manager, by mail: 1201 Bird Center Drive, Palm Springs, CA 92262; phone: (760) 833-7150; or email:
