Bureau of Land Management Plans Trinity County Prescribed Burn

A multi-agency fire crew plans to complete a 200-acre prescribed burn Thursday, Oct. 31, on Bureau of Land Management-administered forest near California State Highway 299 about five miles southeast of Lewiston in Trinity County.

The burn is designed to reduce understory and young trees that can create a "fuel ladder" which could carry a wildfire into the forest canopy. In addition to reducing wildfire risk, the project is designed to improve long-term forest health.

Burning will be completed only if weather conditions allow for safe and successful burning and smoke management.

More information is available from the BLM’s Redding Field Office, (530) 224-2100.
