BLM Redding Field Office will Conduct Prescribed Burning Projects

Several prescribed fire projects designed to improve forest health and reduce wildfire danger will be completed this fall and winter by crews from the Bureau of Land Management's Redding Field Office.

"Broadcast" burns designed to reduce buildups of small trees and brush are planned for the Weaverville Community Forest in Weaverville, the Interlakes area north of French Gulch, at Ewing Reservoir near Hayfork and at Mule Mountain in the west Redding area. Projects vary in size from 5 to 50 acres, BLM officials said.

Crews will also burn piles of brush and limbs on BLM-managed lands at Forks of Butte in Butte County, and along various recreation trails in Shasta County.

"We will be working with partners and cooperators on all of these projects," said Tim Bradley, the BLM's fire management officer in Redding. "We will ignite burning projects only when weather conditions allow for safe and successful burning and smoke management."

The BLM will announce the start of burning operations in advance of each project.

More information on prescribed burning projects is available from the BLM Redding Field Office, (530) 224-2100.
