BLM Receives Conservancy Grant to Improve Rush Creek Watershed Conditions |
||||||
|
The Bureau of Land Management’s Eagle Lake Field Office in Susanville has received a $207,164 grant from the Sierra Nevada Conservancy for projects to improve streamside habitat and springs in the Rush Creek Watershed of eastern Lassen County. The grant award was approved by the SNC Governing Board at a meeting last week. Funds will be used to build fences and spring improvements including water collection boxes and troughs in a 500-acre project area that provides habitat for sage-grouse and other wildlife, grazing areas for livestock, and forage areas for wild horses and burros. The BLM grant was among 29 SNC awards totaling $5.2 million distributed statewide. Funds are from California Proposition 84, passed by state voters in 2006. It funds conservation measures designed to protect important watersheds. |
