BLM Plans Prescribed Burn near French Gulch

Fire crews from the Bureau of Land Management will conduct a prescribed fire near the community of French Gulch Monday, March 18.

The 76-acre broadcast burn is designed to remove hazardous fuels that could feed a wildfire, and to improve forest health conditions in the Interlakes portion of the Chappie-Shasta Off Highway Vehicle Recreation Area.

The project, about seven miles north of French Gulch near the OHV 55 and OHV 27 trails, will get underway about 9:30 a.m. and end at about 4:30 p.m.  Smoke will be visible from French Gulch.  The burn could smolder for a day after burning is complete.

Crews will ignite the fire only if weather allows for safe and successful burning.
