BLM Plans Question and Answer Session on Brush Removal at Fort Ord

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will hold a question-and-answer session April 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to discuss the removal of coyote brush encroachment in the grasslands at Fort Ord National Monument.

The session will be held at the Monterey County Regional Fire District Administration Conference Room, 9900 Portola Drive, Salinas.

The proposed 10-acre project would remove coyote brush encroachment of perennial grassland habitat in the southern portion of the monument. This would improve habitat quality for grassland flora and fauna.  The BLM plans to remove the brush by manual cutting, piling, drying, mastication (cutting) by heavy equipment and pile burning. Depending on the weather, the project would take approximately 10 to 20 days to complete and dust or light smoke may be visible.
