Media Advisory: BLM Offering Horses, Burros for Adoption at Mustangs Festival in Napa


Editors, News Directors, Assignment Editors:  Public adoptions of wild horses and burros various events centered on mustangs and burros are highlights at Napa Mustang Days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 14-16, at the Napa Valley Horsemen’s Arena, 1200 Foster Rd., Napa.

There are photo, video and interview opportunities with adopters selecting and adopting animals, trainers showing methods for gentling wild horses and burros, and people who have adopted and trained animals. Bureau of Land Management staff, event organizers and volunteers will be available.

The schedule:

Friday, June 14:

  • 3 p.m.:   Event opens with previews of animals available for adoption.

Saturday, June 15:

  • 10 a.m.:  Adoption event starts. Silent bidding starts for horses and burros. Adoptions continue all day.
  • Training demonstrations all day. Trainers are Lesley Neuman (mustang gentling), Jerry Tindell, (horsemanship) and Crystal Ward (burro training).
  • 1 p.m.: Arena show featuring the Painted Ladies Rodeo Drill Team and performances featuring trained mustangs and their owners

Sunday, June 16:

  • Adoptions from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
