Planning for Access at Case Mountain


The Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Bakersfield Field Office is planning a public meeting in early July, date and location to be announced, to present alternatives for managing Case Mountain.  The alternatives are being developed using feedback from a public workshop held in Three Rivers on May 29 where plans for the BLM-administered public lands were discussed.

"The goal of the workshop was to allow the public to express, and us to listen to, their thoughts on future management of the Case Mountain area – especially given the potential to acquire a key additional public access location," said Gabriel Garcia, Bakersfield Field Office manager. "I believe the workshop went very well. We had a good number in attendance, and a lot of great feedback and ideas on some of the public access concerns at Case Mountain."

The ideas brought by the public centered on access and parking issues, but ranged from safety concerns over target shooting near local residences to partnering with a local friends or other interest group to provide more on-the-ground management presence.

"We intend to pull together the feedback provided by the public and draft alternatives to address access concerns and the potential land acquisition," said Garcia.
