BLM to host Riverside East Monitoring and Adaptive Management Public Workshops

The Bureau of Land Management will host public workshops on Dec. 11 and 12 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to discuss the Riverside East Solar Energy Zone Monitoring and Adaptive Management Strategy. The workshops will be held at the Renaissance Palm Springs, 888 Tahquitz Canyon Way, Palm Springs.

The Riverside East Solar Energy Zone, in eastern Riverside County, was designated as a priority area for utility scale solar energy development in the Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement for Solar Energy Development in Six Southwest States (Solar PEIS).

Through the Solar PEIS, the BLM committed to preparing monitoring and adaptive management strategies for solar energy zones to better understand the impacts of solar development on public lands. The Riverside East pilot project is the first of these efforts.

At the workshops, the BLM will present information on the important resources and potential impacts within the solar energy zone, describe the long-term monitoring and adaptive management process, and ask for input on the development of the pilot.
