BLM Offers Free, Guided Informational Hike Focused on Rare Native Plants


A free, guided informational hike focused on rare native plants of the Red Mountain area in northern Mendocino County will be offered Saturday, Aug. 10.

Jennifer Wheeler, a botanist with the Bureau of Land Management's Arcata Field Office, will lead the outing from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the BLM-managed area about 10 miles south of Garberville.

Space is limited and RSVP is required. Anyone interested can get detailed information and reserve space by calling the BLM King Range Project Office, (707) 986-5415 or emailing ca338@blm.gov.

Participants should wear sturdy hiking boots, bring food and water, and be prepared for warm weather.

The outing is part of the summer hike series offered by the BLM's King Range National Conservation Area and the Lost Coast Interpretive Association.
