BLM Seeking Volunteers to Help Build New Camping Area |

|
Volunteers are needed to help build a new camping area on public land in the rugged and scenic Hays Mountain Range along the California-Nevada border east of Cedarville, Calif. The Bureau of Land Management has planned the project for Saturday, Sept. 29, on National Public Lands Day. Anyone interested should RSVP by calling the Surprise Field Office at (530) 279-6101. BLM staff and volunteers will clear brush for campsites, install fire rings, build an informational kiosk, install a game hanging station and build a buck and rail fence. The BLM will provide tools and work gloves and transportation to the work site for those who do not have high-clearance vehicles. The BLM will also provide water, snacks and lunch. Participants should bring sunscreen, insect repellent and water bottles. A barbecue and celebration of the day’s accomplishments will be held at the end of the day at the project site. Participants can camp at the site or return to Cedarville when the project is completed. NLPD is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event for public lands. Last year more than 170,000 volunteers worked at more than 2,000 sites in every state, the District of Columbia and many U. S. territories planting trees, removing trash, building trails and clearing invasive plants. Their contributions were estimated at $17 million. |
