Public Comments Taken on BLM Graffiti Removal

In an effort to combat the damage to natural resources, the Bureau of Land Management’s Bishop Field Office has initiated a graffiti removal program.

Public comments will be taken through Sept. 30 on the programmatic Categorical Exclusion. Comments should be sent to BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner Richard Williams at 351 Pacu Lane, Suite 100, Bishop CA 93514 or email to rdwillia@blm.gov .

“Graffiti is a blight on the landscape,” Williams said. Currently it’s not widespread on public lands managed by the Bishop Field Office, but the office is being proactive to stop it before it becomes a common sight.

BLM plans to remove or cover graffiti on rocks, walls or other surfaces located on public lands.

Graffiti would be removed or masked using techniques including scrubbing with a wire brush, power washing, graffiti remover and painting over.

For more information, contact Williams at (760) 872-5033, rdwillia@blm.gov.
