Special Pheasant Hunts Set for Public Land along Sacramento River

The Shasta Sportsmen’s Club will host a special pheasant hunt for women, Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Payne’s Creek Wetlands north of Red Bluff.  Men are welcome to accompany their female hunting buddies.

Applicants must have valid 2012-2013 California hunting licenses when they apply to hunt.   Mandatory check-in and safety orientations begin at 7 a.m. and at noon Saturday. Each of the hunts allows for up to 25 shooters.

The California Department of Fish and Game, Shasta County Sportsmen’s Club and the Bureau of Land Management’s Redding Field Office are sponsoring this event to encourage participation of beginning and novice hunters, to teach gun safety, and to provide hunting opportunities for upland game birds on public land.

The sportsmen’s club will provide lunch.

The BLM-managed Paynes Creek Wetlands are 25 miles south of Redding.  To get there, take the Jelly’s Ferry exit off I-5 to Bend Ferry Road and follow the signs.

The hunt area will be posted, and organizers ask those not associated with the event to stay out of the hunt area while the hunts are underway.
