Junior Pheasant Hunts Set for Public Land along Sacramento River
Young bird hunters will test their skills in special pheasant hunts planned for Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 17 and 18, at the Paynes Creek Wetlands in the Sacramento River Bend Area north of Red Bluff.
Permits are still available for 4 pheasant hunts open to hunters 15 years old and younger.
All applicants must have a valid 2012-2013 California hunting license when they apply to hunt. Mandatory check-in and safety orientations begin at 7 a.m. and noon Saturday and Sunday. Each of the hunts allows for up to 25 hunters.
Information on available space and registration is available from Tony Welch, (530) 597-2201.
The California Department of Fish and Game, Shasta County Sportsman’s Club and the Bureau of Land Management are co-sponsoring this event to encourage the participation of apprentice hunters and to provide additional public hunting opportunities for upland game birds on public land.
The sportsmen’s club will provide lunch.
The BLM-managed Paynes Creek Wetlands are 25 miles south of Redding. To get there, take the Jelly’s Ferry exit off I-5 to Bend Ferry Road and follow the signs.
